Many taken ill after ritual feast in Himachal village

According to the ritual, on the tenth day after the death of a person, the 'Gramchana' is distributed among the people and almost all them who ate it became ill.

Hamirpur: Dozens of people have suddenly become ill in Katiyara village in Himachal Pradesh after attending a ritual feast on Thursday. All the affected people have been admitted to the medical college for treatment.

According to the ritual, on the tenth day after the death of a person, the 'Gramchana' is distributed among the people and almost all them who ate it became ill. Some people got sick on Thursday night, while others fell ill on Friday. Most of them suffered from vomiting and diarrhoea.

Daljit Singh, the head of Gram Panchayat Sarakad said that the sick people were taken to the Medical College Hamirpur and Civil Hospital Tauni Devi in two ambulances for treatment.

According to the Gram Panchayat head, there are some people in the village who have not come for treatment yet, but they are also suffering from vomiting and diarrhoea. On the other hand, the Medical Superintendent of Medical College Hamirpur, Dr RK Agnihotri says that patients are being treated.

So far, a total of 25 people have been admitted for treatment in Tauni Devi and Medical College Hamirpur, while a total of 37 people of the village have been being declared ill.
