Haryana to telecast lessons on TV for school students amid lockdown

The Haryana government will make available four of its Edusat channels on television, which will telecast lesson for school students from classes one to 12. Arrangements are also being made for students to contact their teachers for any help they require with lessons.

Chandigarh: At a time when the ongoing nationwide lockdown is adversely impacting education, the Haryana state government has come up with a scheme to help students take their classes via television.

As per the plan, four channels of the Haryana Edusat will now be made available on cable. Relevant orders have been given to the cable operators in pursuance of the order. Around 52 lakh students, currently locked down at home, will be benefit from this step.

Orders issued by government

The Education Directorate of Haryana has sent orders to District Education Officers, District Basic Education officers, principals and division education officers regarding the inclusion of the four Haryana Edusat channels in the television telecast.

Due to the schools being closed down during lockdown, the state government is trying to ensure that no student loses out academically. The four channels of the Haryana Edusat shall telecast subject-wise and topic-wise classes for students from class 1 to class 12. The channels of the NCERT shall now be telecast on DTH platforms (DD,DISH TV, VIDEOCON, AIRTEL,TATA SKY).

No special charges

The subscribers will have to pay no special charges for enjoying these channels. These 4 channels shall be holding class-wise and subject-wise classes for 8 hours, on a monthly basis. Through these channels the best tutors shall teach the students as if in a classroom. So as to increase the interest of students in the subject matter, the concerned subject will also be explained through educational videos.

Arrangements are also being made so that the students can ask questions and clear their doubts. For this, students shall be in touch with their teachers. For students preparing for competitive examinations like JEE, NEET, special arrangements for classes have been made. If for any reason the students miss the first telecast, arrangement shall be made for a repeat telecast.

Haryana education minister Kanwar Pal Gurjar informed reporters that the state government is having talks with all major cable operators and service providers, who shall telecast these channels free of charge.

In the same manner the Union Government-run channel 'Swayamprabha' has 32 programmes. Haryana has received a four-hour slot. These four hours shall be divided into slots of two hours each, in the morning and in the evening, where the students will able to obtain education related information.

In view of the rapidly spreading COVID-19 infection, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has extended the lockdown till May 3.
