Shimla: Cyber thugs are not leaving even police personnel. In the latest case, former Himachal Pradesh DGP ID Bhandari was taken for a ride by cybercriminals. It is learnt that while searching for the number from Google to buy a product from Amazon, cybercriminals tricked him into downloading the app and withdrew Rs 79,000 from his bank account twice. After coming to know about the fraud, immediately he lodged a complaint with the cyber cell. Based on the complaint filed by the cyber cell, a case has been registered against the cybercriminals at Chhota Shimla Police Station.

According to reports, former Himachal DGP ID Bhandari had reportedly searched the number of Amazon customer care on Google to buy products from Amazon. During this, he found a fake customer care number posted by the cybercriminals, mistaking it for the company's number, he contacted them. Cybercriminals trapped the complainant and tricked him into downloading an app. The criminals executed the fraud in such a professional and clever way that former DGP ID Bhandari downloaded the app assuming them to be staff of Amazon.
Immediately, cybercriminals withdrew Rs 79,900 as soon as the former DGP downloaded and opened the app. They withdrew Rs 49,900 and Rs 30,000 respectively from his account. When he called back the same caller, his phone was switched off. Confirming this on Sunday, SP Shimla Sanjeev Gandhi said that action is being based on the report filed by the Cyber Cell in this regard.
