Farmers protest hits revenues of Haryana roadways

Reports say Haryana Roadways has suffered revenue losses of Rs 4 lakhs per day after most of its profitable routes have been cut off by the farmers' protest.

Faridabad (Haryana ): Haryana roadways in Faridabad are losing revenue of 4 lakhs every day so far on account of farmers’ protest. The ongoing agitation of farmers against the Central farm bills has adversely affected the operations of Haryana Roadways.

Roadways are already running at a loss of crores due to Covid-19 induced lockdown. If the bus service does not come back on track, then the loss of Haryana Roadways is expected to increase.

Gradually, the wheel of Haryana Roadways started gaining momentum, but simultaneously, Farmers, who are up in arms against three central farm laws, have been staging sit-ins against the agricultural laws and the buses plying on about two dozen routes have been halted.

Most of the closed routes are those routes from where Haryana Roadways gets huge fares. Due to farmer agitation, about 24 buses are not operating from Faridabad bus depot in northern states like Himachal, Uttarakhand, Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab Delhi and parts of Uttar Pradesh.

According to the Faridabad Roadways Department, no bus has been plying on many long routes including Delhi, Panchkula, Hamirpur, Shimla, Baijnath, Jammu, Haridwar and Rishikesh ever since the borders have been closed due to the farmers protest.

Since 26th November 2020, the borders of Delhi have been witnessing a huge agitation being carried out by farmers, most of them from Punjab and Haryana.

Around 15 bus from Faridabad Haryana Roadways was running on Faridabad to Delhi route. More than 15,000 passengers use the local depot bus services every day. Faridabad bus depot has 105 buses, out of which only 65 buses are currently running.
