Kurukshetra (Haryana): Amid this gloomy situation, there is a farmer of Kurukshetra district in Haryana has become a role model for the farmers and shown the way by farming vegetables using organic manure.
Randhir Singh, a farmer has achieved a new milestone in the area of vegetable farming. Through organic manure, Randhir has grown such vegetables as would surprise anyone. His name has also been recorded in the Limca Book of World records.
Modern farming using chemical fertilizers has not only reduced the fertility of land but also giving rise to new diseases among the consumers of food grain and other farm produce.
He has created the world record of growing 103 quintals of vegetables in an acre of farmland. He has done new and some novel experiments in his kitchen garden. People come from far to see this novel feat.
Ranbir Singh has grown gourd in his garden some of which measures 5 feet and 5 inches, some at 5 feet 8 inches. Also, he has grown ginger weighing 700 grams and taro root (Arabi) 3 feet tall. Not only these, but Randhir Singh has also grown turmeric, ginger, sugarcane and also a crossbreed of peas and grams and different types of cabbages. Intriguingly, it is more of a hobby for this farmer than a livelihood.
He said, "I can plant crop like any other farmer. The only thing a farmer has to keep in mind is the amount of water their plants get. It is very important that the amount of water for the vegetables. Plants always indicate, by external signs, their need for water itself. It is vital that a farmer should have adequate knowledge about it."
It is pertinent to mention here that Randhir Singh uses only the varieties of organic manure. He has never used any fertilizer. The natural manure he uses is made up of cow dung and excreta of farm animals.
