Jind: Despite rising cases of COVID-19 in the country, Congress leader Randeep Singh Surjewala was seen flouting social distancing norms while addressing a gathering of farmers at Haryana's Jind Anaj Mandi on Thursday.
The incident took place when Surjewala reached Anaj Mandi to interact with the farmers and workers of the area over the procurement of wheat and mustard, amid COVID-19 lockdown.
While the political leaders are religiously appealing the general public to follow the lockdown guidelines to contain the spread of virus, on the other hand, Surjewala was seen violating social distancing norms while addressing a gathering of farmers in Jind.
The incident came to light when photos of the gathering surfaced on the internet, where the crowd can be seen completely neglecting social distancing rules in his presence.
However, the meeting comes at a time when the state is battling COVID-19 pandemic and a large number of farmers gathered in close proximity to each other with no social distancing increasing the risk of spread of the virus.
Earlier on Tuesday, Indian National Lok Dal's (INLD) Abhay Chautala also addressed a similar gathering in Fatehabad Mandi, at a time, when police is working tirelessly to enforce lockdown.
Haryana has reported 254 cases of COVID-19 positive patients, 127 of which have been recovered and discharged while three have succumbed to the virus according to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
