Hisar (Haryana): An autorickshaw driver in Haryana has taken a pledge not to wear slippers till the killers of a woman in Hathras are punished.
Rajpal Burma, who hails from Aryanagar village in Hisar said that women in India are subjected to torture and violence from the day they are born. He further added that most of the women don't get justice for the crimes.
This is not the first time Rajpal is in the news. Earlier when Nirbhaya gang rape culprits were hanged, Rajpal gave a free ride to people on the day of hanging. Apart from this Rajpal also offers free rides for women and the disabled on Raksha Bandhan.
There is anger across the country after the 19-year-old woman is said to have been raped and killed by four men in Hathras in mid-September.
At the time of the incident, the woman went to a farm to collect cattle fodder. The men dragged her away with her dupatta around her neck injuring her spinal cord in the process. The four alleged rapists belong to the Thakur caste. The violence left her paralyzed with a severe spinal cord injury. The perpetrators tried to strangulate the girl as she resisted their rape attempt. Her cries were heard by her mother who came to the spot to find her lying down in the farm.
The victim was initially admitted to the Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College and Hospital in Aligarh. She was later shifted to the Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi after her condition worsened. She died on 29 September 2020. and was cremated at night. The family also could not attend the funeral.
