Panchkula: At least 70 cows were found dead and 30 injured in a 'gaushala' (cow shelter) here, sources said.
The authorities concerned were informed by the Mata Mansa Devi Gaushala administration about the incident, reporting that 70 cows died during the past 24 hours following which a team of doctors reached the gaushala and after inspecting the place, the doctors said that it could be due to food poisoning.
After the initial inspection, it seems that these cows died after eating poisonous feed. However, the real cause of a large number of deaths would be only after the detailed probe report is out, said Doctor Anil, who is heading the team.
Dr Anil also said samples have been sent to the laboratory for testing and then everything would be clear after the report comes.
"At the moment, I can say it's not an infectious disease," he said. Meanwhile, carcasses are being removed from the cow shelter.
