Vadodara (Gujarat): A case has been registered against 18 people in connection with the deaths of 12 students and two teachers in the Vadodara boat capsize incident.
Meanwhile, a boat carrying children tipped over in Vadodara's Harni Motnath Lake on January 18. As a consequence, 12 schoolchildren and two teachers were killed, the sources confirmed.
Schoolchildren were on a picnic in Vadodara's Harni Motnath Lake when the mishap took place. The NDRF team is carrying out the rescue operations and has rescued 20 people so far.
In the wake of the incident, Prime Minister Modi condoled the loss of lives due to a boat capsizing in Vadodara. He also announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh each to the next of kin of the deceased.
Meanwhile, Gujarat CM Bhupendra Patel reached the spot and inspected the rescue operations. The CM also ordered a strong inquiry, and relevant sections of the IPC have been invoked against the accused.
An FIR has been registered, and nine teams have been formed to arrest the accused. CM Bhupendra Patel also visited the postmortem center located at SSG Hospital in Vadodara. He also met the families of the children who lost their lives in the boat capsize incident. The state government has announced Rs 4 lakhs each for the next of kin of the deceased and Rs 50,000 for the injured.
