Surat: With face masks becoming part of the new normal across the world, a Surat-based company has manufactured water-proof masks to keep coronavirus at bay during monsoon, a season which brings numerous diseases every year with its precipitation.

As states across the country ease restrictions amid the coronavirus pandemic, it’s important that people venturing out for various purposes take all possible precautions to stay safe and prevent the spread of infection.

The south-west monsoon has arrived in Gujarat which will bring heavy rainfall in the area. The state which is already ailing with COVID-19 and is among the five worst-coronavirus hit state in the country, the recently arrived monsoon will only add to the woes of the residents.

A problem came into light with the approaching monsoon was that people may find it difficult to keep their masks dry in the season, which will not only defeat the purpose of the mask but also bring additional infections with it.

In such a situation, the Surat-based company manufactured masks that are not only waterproof but also resistant to blood, oil and other forms of liquid.

In addition to this, the masks are anti-viral and anti-bacterial, which are currently in high demand in the market.

"The major problem that the residents faced was that they were unable to safeguard their masks while they were going out in rain. This is the world’s first anti-biotic, hygienic, water-proof mask," said Viral Daliya, promoter of the company.

Explaining the three-layer face mask, he said," The first layer saves the mask from water, the second layer is made of sponge and the third layer is made of cotton fabric that allows air to pass. The surface of the mask is anti-bacterial and is available in the market at Rs 150. As it is washable too, the mask can be used for 30 to 180 days. The mask has been certified by quality control agencies."

Mask’s designer Nancy Bodhwala said the mask has been specially made for use during the monsoon and one can breathe easily while wearing the mask.

The local water-proof mask is an example of how people have found an opportunity in the time of calamity.
