Ahmedabad: The Supreme Court slammed the Gujarat government today for a fire incident which happened in a Rajkot Hospital taking away 6 lives and observed that it is a repeated situation yet the there are no steps taken by the states.
"This is shocking, and let me say this is not the first incident. We are taking suo moto cognizance of this incident," said the bench led by Justice Ashok Bhushan.
Solicitor General, Tushar Mehta, assured the court that a meeting will take place today and immediate steps will be taken for issues of fire safety. Court asked him to consult Chief Fire Officer, Mr. MF Dastoor.
It directed the Solicitor General to inform about the steps in the next hearing and asked Gujarat to submit a report by 1st December when the matter will again be taken up.
