Ahmedabad: Most markets are closed during the second phase of the coronavirus pandemic and because of restrictions only take-away food outlets are operating.

In the first phase, the food and beverages sector was completely closed as a result of the lockdown. While, there was no income for the owners of the eateries, their expenses on staff salary, rent etc remained the same. As a result, most business owners were compelled to shut their shops.

Requested DGP to allow take-way operation till 12 midnight

Talking to ETV Bharat, leader of the food industry Narendra Somani said the eateries and take-way food operation should be allowed till 12 in the night because it becomes difficult to do home delivery by 8 a.m when curfew comes into force.

He said the food and beverages industry has requested the DGP to allow home delivery of food up to midnight by issuing the delivery boys curfew pass.

He said because of the restrictions and earlier lockdown condition, as many as 60 per cent of the eateries and restaurants have closed down, rendering its staff jobless. Most of the staff members were from Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan who have left for their homes and hence the impact of unemployment is not being felt locally.
