Patient Dayaben Budhelia had a tumour in her brain for its surgical removal she was brought to a private hospital in Ahmedabad. During brain surgery, the surgeon had told her to keep talking so that the surgeon can keep a tab on the condition of the brain and perform the operation. This type of brain surgery is done only while keeping the patient wide awake.
Patient recited Bhagvat Gita in operation theatre
Dayaben, the patient, used to have fits in the brain following which she was advised to undergo brain surgery. She requested the surgeon to allow her to recite the Bhagvat Gita during the surgery. She recited shlokas from the holy book while the surgery was in progress.
There was possibility of paralysis during surgery
The tumour was in such a position in the brain that there was a possibility of paralysis. Therefore, it was necessary to keep the patient fully conscious. That is why the patient continued reciting shlokas from the Bhagvat Gita.
This was first such experience for the surgeon and the staff
Talking to ETV Bharat, the surgeon Dr Kalpesh Shah said he has been performing such surgery for many years but this was the first time that a patient recited shlokas from the Bhagvat Gita.
Religious atmosphere created in operation theatre
The patient had told the surgeon that she had full faith in Bhagvat Gita, thanks to the religious upbringing by her parents. She too has inculcated religiosity in her two sons who too have been reciting shlokas from the Bhagvat Gita from their childhood. By reciting the shlokas, the patient created an atmosphere of religion in the operation theatre even for the surgeon.
