Ahmedabad(Gujarat): Over 250 cases of cybercrime were registered at Cybercrime police station Ahmedabad since its inception in 2018. Initially, cybercrimes were handled by the crime branch of Ahmedabad police, however, as there was an increase in the number of cybercrimes, a separate police station was exclusively set up for tackling cybercrime cases.
A total of 256 offences were registered by the Cybercrime police station in the last two years.
Initially, there were few cases but later the numbers increased rapidly. In 2020, 131 cases were registered. The cybercrime police were also able to get back money to the victims who were swindled by cybercriminals.

Cybercrime mostly includes online fraud, hacking, illegal call centres, fake accounts on social media, nasty comments or posts.
Cybercrime police have also detected a number of crimes based on technical analysis. Some criminals also commit crimes from outside the country so it is difficult to catch them. Some criminals use a foreign server so that they cannot be tracked.
It may be noted that Cybercrime complaints can now be lodged in any police station which is then investigated by the cybercrime police. In order to create awareness among the people, advertisements are also given educating the people about how to avoid being trapped by cybercriminals.
