Newly commissioned Coast Guard Ship Sajag arrives to home port Porbandar

Indian Coast Guard Ship Sajag arrived at her home port Porbandar on Saturday. The Samarth-class Offshore Patrol Vessel was commissioned at Goa Shipyard on May 29 by National Security Advisor Ajit Doval.

Porbandar (Gujarat): Indian Coast Guard Ship Sajag, which was recently commissioned by National Security Advisor Ajit Doval on May 29, arrived at her home port Porbandar on Saturday. Indian Coast Guard Inspector General (North West) Rakesh Pal was present to receive the ship in a function organized at the port.

Addressing the media persons after the ceremony, Pal said that the new Off-Shore Patrol Vessel will augment the maritime security of the region. Under the Prime Minister's vision of self-reliance 11 ships are built in Goa Shipyard. Sajag was one of the vessels and another vessel Sarthak will arrive at Porbandar after three months. The recently unveiled two advanced helicopters, Mark III, will arrive in Porbandar in one to two months, he said.

The Off-shore Patrol Vessel Sajag has multi-purpose capabilities at the sea including pollution control, tackling anti-social elements and search and rescue operations, he added.

One of the Samarth-class offshore patrol vessels, the ship has a modern integrated bridge system, integrated machinery control system and power management system and its power management and mechanism is operated by the electronic remote control system. She is capable of carrying an advanced light helicopter with 2 engines and a single-engine Chetak helicopter. The ship also has pollution response equipment to deal with the situation at the time of an accident like an oil spill at sea and she is a kind of Ready Relevant and Responsive Ship.

Sajag is equipped with 46 Bofors Gun Weapons and 12.7 MM SPCG Gun and External Fire Fighting as well as Automatic Weapon Simulator System. With 105 metre length, the ship displaces 2350 tonnes and is propelled by two 9100 KW diesel engines. She can attain the maximum speed of 26 knots.
