Surat: 'Converting adversity into opportunity leads to self-reliance' and this statement suits to a girl belong from Gujarat. Dipti Bhalla, resident of Surat district has been making thousands of two-layered Khadi cotton fabric masks every day which not only guards against coronavirus but also the severe summer heat.
She has converted this into a thriving business at a time when most businesses and industries are closed on account of the lockdown.
Following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call to the countrymen to become self-reliant, Dipti Bhalla, who used to run a beauty parlour, is making two-layer masks from Khadi cotton fabric that she has designed, which not only prevents coronavirus infection but also keeps the face cool during the summer.
The mask has been so designed as to make it comfortable to breathe air. People prefer to wear Khadi during summer and so Dipti decided to use the Khadi fabric to make the masks. This serves the dual objective of fighting coronavirus as also make swadeshi popular.
The two-layered Khadi mask has become among medical staff and other coronavirus warriors because it is washable and can be used several times. Though Khadi is expensive, this mask comes at a much lower price than the other masks available in the market. Dipti makes 10,000 masks at her home every day.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had emphasized the two words – swadeshi and self-reliance. The mask is made in Surat is the perfect example of both these concepts advocated by the Prime Minister. Like the Khadi mask, it is hoped that people would start using more swadeshi goods.
