Elderly muslim man cremates the dead during pandemic

A 71-year-old Muslim man has been carrying out the work of maintaining the crematorium of Modasa town as also supplying firewood. No matter if it is day or night, the old man is at the service of those who come to cremate the body of their near and dear ones, supplying whatever is needed for the last rites. Even while observing fast during the Ramzan, Abdul Rahman has been performing his duty in the crematorium.

At 71, he works without tiring

COVID-19 has shaken the world since last more than one year. The pandemic has claimed millions of lives. The pandemic has taken its toll on life in the Aravalli district also. In such trying times, Abdul Rahman Chacha has been providing his unfailing service in the town’s crematorium.

Talking to ETV Bharat, Abdul Rahman Chacha said he has been holding the contract of maintenance of the crematorium and supply of firewood for the last ten years. Whenever the family and relatives of those who die of coronavirus call him, he provides firewood and other materials necessary for conducting the last rites to them in the crematorium despite his 71 years of age.

Enjoys family support

While it is a difficult task for Chacha to remain present at the last rites of those who have died of the corona pandemic, it is also a matter of concern and worry for his family members. However, his family has been very supportive. Chacha has been providing his services at the crematorium even today when the Muslims are observing fast during the month of Ramzan.

He too has performed last rites of the dead

On some occasions, the relatives of the dead are scared to come to the crematorium because of the fear of catching coronavirus infection. On such occasions, Abdul Rahman Chacha performs the last rites of the dead.
