Donkeys married in unique TN ritual for rains

In order to have rains in the region, people of Annur in Coimbatore married two donkeys. The marriage was organised out of a traditional belief in the area.

Coimbatore: As an offering in a ritual, two donkeys were married in the Annur area of Coimbatore. The ritual was performed in order to please the God of rain for showering rains in the region.

It is an old age belief in the area that the marriage of two donkeys brings upon the blessings of the almighty in the form of rain.
It was decided that the ritual will be performend due the persistent drought conditions in the Coimbatore district. The district has not received any rainfall during the last 6 months.

The two donkeys from different genders were readied for the occasion and taken to the Sri Subramania Swami Temple by the villagers. There, they were married with tarditional customs and music.

One of the villagers said: "It is a belief that the marriage of donkeys leads to rains in an area and so we organised the wedding."

"Whoever attended the wedding, showered blessings upon the animals and brought cash as a gift to them. Also, kambu koozh, a traditional dish of Tamil Nadu was served to all the guests," he added.

Donkeys got married in ritual to get rain Coimbatore:Two donkey got married near Annur to please rain god It is believed that if we please rain god by performing marriage for two Donkeys,he will shower us with rain. Close to Annur in Coimbatore district, people are facing drought,water scarcity because there is no rain showered in the village during the past six months.Villagers decided for a marriage of two donkeys. Like all the traditional marriage customs for humans,the two donkeys from different gender decorated in marriage style by the villagers and taken to Subramaniyar Kovil and got married with traditional band music. People who attented the marriage poured there blessings when one of the villager tied the thali to the female donkey. While speaking to a villager he said"It is a folkflore that if two donkeys get married the rain god will get pleased and pour us rain.So we performed this marriage and people who attented this marriage has given cash gifts. Kambankul a traditional food,was given to people who attented this marriage.
