Yeddy Dairies: BJP criticizes Congress

The Bharatiya Janata Party rejected the bribery charge levelled by the Congress, which referred to a media report to allege that the top leadership of the ruling party was paid a bribe of Rs 1,800 crore.

New Delhi: Days ahead of the Lok Sabha polls, a political controversy erupted on Friday after a media report titled 'The Yeddy Diaries' published by news magazine 'The Caravan' alleged that former Karnataka Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa paid Rs 1,800 crore to some top BJP leaders to induct Yeddyurappa as the Chief Minister of Karnataka for the second term.

Union Law Minister and senior BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad followed up the counter-attack on Congress. He slammed the Congress for spreading "a web of lies" and said the Congress is "desperate and has lost its balance".

"Karnataka Congress leader D. Shivakumar has been involved in such allegations in the past and he made his claims on the basis of a sheet of paper. The Income Tax Department department asked him if he had the original copy of the paper, but he could not present it," he said.

Intro: Congress party on Friday, referring to a report published in a magazine and a piece of paper from a diary which allegedly belonged to senior BJP leader from Karnataka, BS Yedurappa alleged that a bribe worth 1800 crore rupees was paid to the senior leaders of the BJP to induct Yedurappa as the Chief Minister of Karnataka for the second term.
BJP was quick to react after the news started making rounds post Congress presser.
Senior BJP leader Ravishankar Prasad refuted to the allegations and said that the income tack department have already declared that the documents were forged and fake.


Body:The senior BJP leader Ravishankar Prasad said that piece of paper was recovered from Congress leader D Shivakumar's residence during a raid conducted at his place by the income tax department. When the I-T department officials asked Shivkumar about the authenticity of the paper he denied and said since he doesn't have an original copy, he can't say anything or file a case.
"Congress party is desperate in view of the eminent defeat staring at its face. Congress party has lost balance" he said.
In his address Ravishankar Prasad narrated the whole story how the paper came in possession of Congress leaders and how it was just a fake piece of loose sheet of paper.
Attacking back on Congress the BJP leader reiterated that these allegations are being made by a party whose top leadership and their relatives are themselves out on bail and there are serious charges of corruption against them.
