Yamuna floods: Pregnant woman, family spend entire night perched on tree

A pregnant woman of Usmanpur and her family were forced to spend their night on a tree after water from river Yamuna submerged their hut. The police were called the next day after which the family was rescued. The water level of the Yamuna started receding on Wednesday, but the river still continues to flow above the danger mark.

New Delhi: A pregnant woman and her family spent an entire night on a tree to save themselves from the waters of the overflowing Yamuna that submerged their hut in Usmanpur area of New Delhi.

Scared witless when the floodwaters entered her house, Noorjahan used a pile of wood to climb the tree to save herself and her two children. When her husband, Jahangir, a rickshaw puller, managed to get back home late in the night he too took shelter on the tree.

The pregnant woman and her family had to spent a whole night on a tree due to flood in the area.

The family spent the entire night there and called up police only at 11 am on Wednesday, a government official said. A team of policemen and doctors rushed to the spot and rescued the family around 12 noon.

Noorjahan said that she couldn't dial her husband as she was too frightened to able to think clearly.

The water level of the Yamuna started receding on Wednesday, but the river still continues to flow above the danger mark.

According to the Flood Control Room, the water level came down to 206.50 metres at 5 pm from 206.60 metres at 2 pm.

The river breached the danger mark of 205.33 metres on Monday. Due to inundation of low-lying areas, over 15,000 people living in Yamuna floodplains have been shifted to tents set up by various government agencies, officials said.

Intro:दिल्ली में बाढ़ से जूझते लोगों की परेशानियों की कहानियां एक एक करके अब सामने आने लगी हैं. इन्हीं में एक घटना सामने आई है, उत्तर पूर्वी दिल्ली के जीरो पुस्ता से, जहां एक गर्भवती महिला को घर में पानी भर जाने के बाद 12 घण्टे पेड़ पर चढ़कर अपनी जान बचानी पड़ी.

Body:उत्तर पूर्वी दिल्ली: नूरजहां और उनके पति जहांगीर अपने दो बच्चों के साथ जीरो पुस्ता पर झुग्गियों में रहते थे. बाढ़ की चेतावनी के बावजूद वे जल्दी में अपने घर से नहीं निकल सके, क्योंकि नूरजहां गर्भवती थीं. अचानक जब घर में पानी घुसा तो बचने के लिए उन्हें पास के एक पेड़ का सहारा लेना पड़ा और गर्भवती नूरजहां भी पति और बच्चों के साथ पेड़ पर चढ़ गईं.

मंगलवार रात 9 बजे से बुधवार करीब 11 बजे तक यह परिवार पेड़ पर ही रहा. 11 बजे इन्होंने 100 नंबर पर कॉल किया, जिसके बाद पुलिस और बचाव दल के सदस्य इन तक पहुंचे और नाव तथा गोताखोरों की मदद से इन्हें पेड़ से उतारा गया. उसके बाद नाव पर चढ़ाकर बचाव दल ने इन्हें कैंप तक पहुंचाया.

Conclusion:गौरतलब है कि दिल्ली में यमुना खतरे के निशान से ऊपर बह रही है, वहीं हरियाणा से अब भी लगातार पानी छोड़ा जा रहा है. ऐसे में पानी का स्तर बढ़ने की ही आशंका है और इसे देखते हुए लगातार लोगों को राहत कैंपों में लाया जा रहा है.
