Two employees die while cleaning restaurant waste plant in Delhi

In a shocking incident, two restaurant employees died inhaling toxic gas while cleaning the waste treatment plant. A case has been filed and investigations are on.

New Delhi: Two employees suffocated to death, while two others were injured on Saturday after they entered a kitchen waste treatment plant of a restaurant here to clean it, a police officer said.

The incident occurred at 2 p.m when four employees belonged to housekeeping department were doing cleanliness work inside the waste treatment plant of 'Pirates of Grill' restaurant at Rajouri Garden area of west Delhi, the officer said.

"During the cleanliness work, two staffers, Rakesh, 45 and Ajay, 19 came in contact with toxic gas and fainted inside the plant. When they did not respond, two other employees, Pankaj and Raju, stepped inside to check them, but also fainted and were injured," DCP Monika Bhardwaj said.

All four were pulled by a local police team and taken to the nearby Deen Dayal Upadhyay hospital, where Rakesh and Ajay were declared dead, while Pankaj and Raju are undergoing treatment, she added.

A case of causing death by negligence has been registered in Rajouri Garden Police Station and investigations are on, the DCP said.

The family members of Rakesh and Ajay, both residents of Tagore Garden area, alleged that they were hired for the housekeeping department but the restaurant management assigned them cleanliness work in the treatment plant.

Intro:In response to cyclone hit Mozambique's request, Indian Naval crew has rescued total 192 people under Operation Sahayata 2019. Not only this, nearly 1381 people were provided medical assistance in Indian Navy set medical camps.






Body:Indian Navy Helicopter Chetak took several sorties to facilitate aerial survey by Disaster management officials of Mozambique, for evacuation of people in coordination with local authorities and for dropping of food & water packets in cyclone affected areas.


Indian Navy ships have also been providing fresh water in relief camps, undertaking community service including clearing of debris and repairing damaged roads etc. Food supplies have also been provided to about 700 persons working in the port area.





Conclusion:After Cyclone IDAI wreaked havoc in Mozambique, Government of India immediately diverted 3 Indian naval ships to the port city of Beira. Over the last several days, the 3 Indian ships, INS Sujata, ICGS Sarathi and INS Shardul are undertaking Humanitarian Assistance Disaster Relief in coordination with local authorities and the High Commission of India, Maputo.
