New Delhi: Before his scheduled visit to India, President Trump is sparing no opportunity to go gaga about the mega event planned in Ahmedabad. On three different occasions so far, he has stated that nearly 7 to 10 million will be there to greet him.
So, is US President Trump's visit nothing more than the optics? Or does it carry any bilateral significance? To understand this, ETV Bharat team spoke to former diplomat KP Fabian.
The former diplomat termed it more of an optic than anything else. But he also made a point claiming that visit of the American President to any country carries a great significance.
President Donald Trump will arrive in Ahmedabad on February 24. There, he will host a road show along with PM Modi till the newly built Motera stadium. He will inaugurate the world's biggest cricket stadium and address a gathering of nearly a lakh people.
On President Trump's big claims of a seven million gathering, the former diplomat said that India may take those figures with a pinch of salt. Fabian though didn't hesitate from saying that the optics in India will be of a significant use for him in the United States.
In the election year, Trump's India visit speaks volume about his approach to woo the four million Indian diaspora residing in the United States. It's not hidden that two million non-resident Indians play an important role in the development of the US.
