New Delhi: The Supreme Court has ordered the Central Bureau of Investigation to probe in the matter regarding the release of land in Rohtak to real estate builder Uddar Gagan Properties Ltd during ex-CM Bhupinder Singh Hooda's led congress government in the state. The bench comprising of Justice Uday Umesh Lalit, Justice Ajay Rastogi, and Justice Aniruddha Bose were hearing around 6 petitions related to the case.
Back in 2005, Uddar Gagan Properties, entered into a collaboration with farmers whose land was under the government's acquisition, to develop a colony. They sought a license for 280 acres of land to build a colony which was granted by the state and the land was released from acquisition. The licenses were addressed to the owners but remitted to the builder followed by execution of sale deeds.

It is alleged that the Hooda led government had first bought the land at cheaper rates from the farmers and then gave it to the builders which led to an exponential increase in the land price.

Back in 2016 the apex court had quashed the notification on land released from acquisition and had directed the state to look into the matter. In 2018, the BJP led government ordered an inquiry into the matter by a retired judge instead of CBI as per their earlier announcement. Once the matter has already been investigated by retired IAS officer Rajan Gupta who had not held anyone responsible and alleged system failure.
