Special screening of upcoming Bollywood movie 'The Kerala Story' held at JNU

The screening was held at the Convention Center, Auditorium No. 1 of JNU where hundreds of students watched the film.

New Delhi: Upcoming Bollywood movie 'The Kerala Story', which is facing a protest from certain quarters was on Tuesday screened at the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) New Delhi. The movie which is said to be based on the conversion of 32,000 girls in Kerala and their subsequent trafficking into ISIS terror folds was screened at the Convention Center, Auditorium No. 1 of JNU where hundreds of students watched the film.

Sudipto Sen, director of 'The Kerala Story', producer Amrutlal Shah and lead actress Adah Sharma were also present at the special screening. The screening was arranged by the Vivekananda Vichar Manch with active support of the ABVP. After the screening was over, the students present on the spot asked questions related to the film to the chief guests.

Director Sudipto Sen discussed with the students about the circumstances and difficulties he had to face in making the film. While the film shows the disappearance of 32000 girls, but in reality these cases are more than 50000, Sen claimed. Producer of the film Vipul Amrutlal Shah said that he had to endure a lot in the film industry during the making of the film.

According to Shah, those who used to distance themselves from this film at the beginning, “are now trying to make themselves a part of this film”. Lead actress of the film Adah Sharma said that she “not only played the character of the film but also lived it”. Pertinently, in a victory for the makers of the film, the Supreme Court on Tuesday refused to entertain a plea seeking a stay on release of the movie which is scheduled to be released on May 5.

Director of the film Sudipto Sen whiel addressing the protests against the film, urged Keralites to watch the film before making an opinion. "Dear my Kerala, U r highest in literacy. Education taught us tolerance. Pls watch The Kerala Story. Why the hurry to make opinion? Watch it - if u dislike, we'll debate. We worked 7-yrs for this film in Kerala. We are part of u. We are Indian together. Love u," Sen wrote in a Twitter post on Apr. 29.
