New Delhi: The Railway Police Force (RPF) on Sunday nabbed a lady thief at Hazrat Nizamuddin railway station and retrieved stolen jewellery worth Rs 2.5 lakh from her possession.
According to police, a woman in Agra lodged a complaint wherein she reported that her wallet was stolen from her bag at the Hazrat Nizamuddin railway station on October 5.
The RFP team launched an investigation and checked CCTV footage. In the footage, a woman can be seen walking behind the victim and she was captured in the CCTV camera while stealing the purse.
The police began the search of the suspect and arrested the lady within 24 hours on October 6 on the same platform where she committed the crime. Soon the case was unveiled when the lady arrived again the next day and was trying to hide her face behind the scarf from the CCTV camera.
The accused arrested by the police has been identified as Pooja and she confessed to the crime during interrogation.
According to reports, stolen jewellery worth Rs 2.5 lakh was recovered from the thief including a gold necklace, three rings, one silver anklet, two gold bangles and cash amounting Rs 2500.
The case has been referred to Government Railway Police (GRP).
