New Delhi: Health of Asia's oldest chimpanzee, Rita, has been on a steady decline from the past few days in Delhi's National Zoological Park.
Reportedly, Rita is on a liquid diet of fruit juices and is being kept under the supervision of doctors.
Veterinary doctors have been called from Madhya Pradesh, Punjab and Uttar Pradesh for Rita's treatment.
Rita was born in Amsterdam Zoo in the Netherlands, and was brought to the Delhi in 1964, when she was around five-years-old.
Its birthday is on December 15, 1960. It has been recognized as the oldest chimpanzee in Asia, according to the Limca Book of Records.
Few days back, a Royal Bengal Tiger died due to prolonged illness at the menagerie.
The Central Zoo Authority has formed a three-member committee and has asked to a submit report within three days, in connection with the death of the Royal Bengal Tiger and deteriorating health condition of Chimpanzee Rita.
An SIT has been formed to investigate the reason behind the death of all animals.
The zoo administration has also suspended a doctor after an SIT team demanded suspension.
Earlier, Black Deer, Wild Boar and an African buffalo died in the month of August.
