New Delhi: Former Mumbai Police Commissioner and retired IPS officer Julio Ribeiro has written to Delhi Police Commissioner SN Shrivastava for a fair investigation into the Delhi riots.
A Delhi Police spokesman said that an email has been sent to the Commissioner of Police by the name Julio Ribeiro, which is being investigated.
He has appealed for an impartial inquiry into the 753 FIRs lodged against peaceful protesters in the Delhi riots case.
“I write to you with a heavy heart,” Ribeiro said in his letter. “As a true patriot and a former proud member of the Indian Police Service, I appeal to you to ensure a fair probe into the 753 FIRs registered against peaceful protesters who rightly apprehend injustices born from bias and hate against a minority community.”
He said that while the Delhi Police has taken action against innocent people, BJP leaders like Kapil Mishra, Parvesh Verma and Anurag Thakur have been kept at bay.
He also mentioned that the Delhi Police has failed to take any action against the leaders who spread hatred while action is being taken against the leaders who are protesting peacefully. Therefore, there should be a fair inquiry into the entire matter.
The former IPS officer, who has been honoured with several awards, including Padma Bhushan, said that not taking action against some BJP leaders is a surprising decision. While they had an important role in provoking the riots.
