Rajya Sabha election 2020: Polls for 6 seats to be held on June 19

Election Commission (EC) on Monday announced elections to 6 Rajya Sabha seats to take place on June 19 as the members are retiring in June to July 2020. These 6 members are from 3 states including 4 from Karnataka, 1 from Arunachal and 1 from Mizoram.

New Delhi: The Election Commission of India ( ECI) has announced dates for Rajya sabha for 6 seats as the members are retiring in June to July 2020. These 6 members are from 3 states including 4 from Karnataka, 1 from Arunachal and 1 from Mizoram.

The elections will take place on June 19. Mukut Mithi, MP Rajya Sabha Arunachal Pradesh will retire on June 23 and four MP from Karnataka namely D.Kupendra Reddy, Prabhakar Kore, Rajeev Gowda MV and BK Hari Prasad will retire on June 25. One seat will be vacated on July 18 after completion of term of Ronald Sapa Tlau from Mizoram.

ECI has directed that for purpose of marking preference on ballot paper only integrated violet color sketch pens of prefixed specifications shall be used. The pens will be provided by Returning Officers.

Election Commission has also directed Chief Secretaries of concerned states to depute senior officer from state to ensure that extant instructions regarding COVID-19 containment measures are compiled while making arrangements for elections.

ECI has also appointed Chief Electoral Officers concerned as observer of elections in state.

The notification of elections will be issued on June 2 and last date to file nomination is June 9. Nominations can be withdrawn till June 12. Counting of votes to take place at 5 pm onwards on June 19.

Earlier on Monday, ECI also announced new dates for Rajya Sabha elections deferred due to COVID-19.
