The memorandum was signed in the presence of Minister of State for Railways Suresh Angadi.

"Today with the help of Make in India, we are making the organic fertilizers from waste. Though these concepts were with us earlier but now we are copying them from the western countries," added Angadi.

Reportedly, to be in the forefront in taking environment-friendly initiatives, Railways has taken various measures such as installing bio toilets, tree plantation on track side boundaries and tapping solar energy.

Ministry of Railways, had recently decided to install 400 plastic bottle crushing machines at the Railway Stations before 2nd of October. Also, to motivate the passengers for using these machines, Indian Railways offered to recharge their mobile wallets if they opt to use these machines.

Passengers wanting to use those machines will have to key their phone numbers into the machine while disposing of their plastic bottles into it, after which their phone will get recharged. This move comes in a bid of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's appeal to the people to eliminate single-use plastic and to find an alternative of that.

When ETV Bharat asked the passengers travelling in trains about this initiative, they hailed the move by saying that it will encourage the people for not using plastic bottles and it will also help railways to maintain cleanliness at their stations.

This move comes in the wake of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's appeal to the people for eliminating single-use plastic from their daily routine on a priority basis.
