Railways first isolation coaches deployed in Delhi to battle corona pandemic

With Delhi battling the wrath of coronavirus, first modified isolation coach by Railways, for covid-19 patients has been deployed in the national capital.

New Delhi: After Delhi government's demand, Railway's first covid-19 care centre consisting of 10 modified coached with 160 beds has been deployed in Delhi, an official said on Tuesday.

According to reports, these coaches are the first of the 5,321 coaches which have been converted into isolation wards by the railways for the treatment of coronavirus patients. Sources say, amid the growing cases of coronavirus in the state, Delhi government had requested for isolation coaches from the Ministry of Railways.

Further, the coaches have been deployed at the maintenance depot at Shakur Basti on Sunday and the special secretary of the Delhi government has been intimated about it, officials said. A senior official said that a team of the Delhi government has inspected the coaches and are likely to give a report soon. However, the coaches will soon be put into use, an official said.

The national capital is among the worst-hit state by the covid-19 pandemic with nearly 11,565 active cases and 523 fatalities recorded so far.
