New Delhi: Railway unions on Friday protested against the IRCTC's Tejas Express, the country's first "private" train, flagged off by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in Lucknow.

The All India Railway Men's Federation (AIRF) said it is observing the day as 'virodh diwas' across the network against the first "private" train Tejas and the railway board's decision to give another 150 trains to the private sector.

Terming the launch of the Tejas express on Friday as a "black day", members of the railway unions carrying banners and shouting slogans gathered in front of the divisional railway manager's office here.

In Ghaziabad, over 200 railway employees blocked the rail track. Later, Railway Protection Force (RPF) officials pacified the angry protesters.

"In case of privatisation of railways, lakhs of employees will become jobless and their families will also face the dire consequences of it," said Ashok Prakash, a member of the northern railway workers union.

The new IRCTC Tejas Express train, which will run between Lucknow and New Delhi, cuts the time travelled between the two cities to six hours 15 minutes from the six hours 40 minutes taken by the Swarna Shatabdi, currently the fastest train on the route.

New Delhi: India's first corporatized train Tejas Express as begin the operations on the route of Lucknow to New Delhi on Friday. However, this train faced agitation on its first arrival at New Delhi Railway Station by the Railway Union, who were protesting against the privatization of this train.

Tejas Express was flagged off by Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath, on Friday, from Lucknow Junction. This train reached New Delhi railway station at 4 o'clock in the evening taking its exact time of travelling by 6 hours 15 minutes.


Body:The All India Railway Men's Federation protested against the country's first private train by calling the day as 'Virodh Divas' across the network as the Railway Board has decided to handover 150 trains to the private sector. The members of Railway Union shouted slogans against the Railway Ministry and the Union Government, while carrying banners against 'privatization' of Indian Railways.

The cost of Tejas Express ticket is Rs 1,280 for AC Chair car passengers and Rs 2,450 for Executive Chair Car. The Railway Union claims that these tickets are much costly then the other trains running on this route and it will be difficult for a common man to pay such high prices to travel via train.

The Railway Board handed over this train to IRCTC for operation on haulage concepts with ticketing and on board services. The Railway Union believes that because of this decision a huge number of workers will lose their jobs.




Conclusion:Tejas Express will start its commercial run from October 5. It will leave Lucknow at 6.10 am and reach New Delhi Railway Station at 12.25 PM. On its return journey, the train will leave Delhi at 3.35 PM and reach Lucknow at 10.05 PM.
