Youth Congress workers torch tractor during protest near India Gate

A tractor was set on fire by activists of the Punjab Youth Congress while staging a protest against farm bills near India Gate. A case has been registered in Tilak Marg police station.

New Delhi: Around 15-20 people reportedly belonging to the Punjab Youth Congress set a tractor on fire at India Gate here on Monday morning, police said.

The incident comes amid protests by farmers and opposition parties across the country over the contentious farm legislations that were passed by the Parliament last week.

According to fire officials, they received information regarding the incident at 7.42 am and two fire tenders were rushed to the spot.

"About 15-20 people had gathered around 7.15-7.30 am and tried to set a tractor on fire. The fire has been doused off and tractor was removed. Legal action is being taken in the matter. Identity of the persons involved is being ascertained," Deputy Commissioner of Police (New Delhi) Eish Singhal said.

Meanwhile, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has decided to conduct a public awareness campaign for farmers on the three agriculture-related legislation and to counter the Opposition parties agenda of misleading farmers on their objectives.

The Prime Minister also appealed to the party members to make people understand the Farm bills by conducting campaigns.

The BJP has decided to conduct awareness programs across seven states for 15-days where via press conferences, meetings and webinars the party aims to quash the fake news around the farm bills.

Although BJP got the Farm Bills passed from both the houses of Parliament amidst uproar by the opposition parties, it has become difficult since they have come on roads against the bills.
