Hand over North-East Delhi to Army: Owaisi

AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi on Tuesday demanded that the violence hit-North-East Delhi be handed over to the Army.

The Hyderabad MP voiced concern over the situation in the national capital where clashes between pro and anti-CAA protesters have so far claimed nine lives, including a head constable of Delhi Police. Owaisi tweeted that Army should be called to restore peace.

"The situation in North East Delhi is only getting worse. If @PMOIndia wants to restore peace, it is incumbent on you that Army takes over the area," tweeted Owaisi.

"Cops have abdicated their duty & are colluding with mobs. The only way to secure lives & limbs is to hand over the area to the Army," he added.

Congress leader Udit Raj on Tuesday alleged that Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) are behind the violence in the North-East Delhi in which seven people have been killed so far.

"BJP is behind yesterday's violence. They want to break the country. It is a matter of grave concern and shame that BJP leader Kapil Mishra is making such inflammatory statements in the presence of Delhi Police. Delhi Police which works under Union Ministry of Home Affairs is not able to control the situation", Udit Raj told ANI.

He also accused Delhi Police of giving a free hand to people who were wearing saffron clothes and chanted 'Jai Shri Ram' slogans.

Gambhir calls for action against anybody provoking people

East Delhi BJP MP Gautam Gambhir on Tuesday condemned the violence in the city over the amended citizenship law and said action should be taken against any party member, "whether Kapil Mishra or anyone else", who gave provocative speeches.

The MP also asked those protesting against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) to talk to the government instead of indulging in violence.

"Whoever, no matter which party he belongs to, whether he is Kapil Mishra or anyone else, who gave speeches to provoke people, action should be taken against them," Gambhir told reporters here.

Mishra, who had contested the recent Assembly polls on a BJP ticket, led a gathering in support of the CAA at Maujpur Chowk in the Jafarabad area on Sunday, after which violence erupted between pro and anti-CAA sides.

Some elements creating trouble in Delhi: Kishan Reddy

Union Minister of State for Home G. Kishan Reddy on Tuesday said some elements were still trying to resort to violence in Delhi.

"Reports are coming that even today attempts are being made to create violence. We will conduct high-level probe into this to find out who are behind this and place the facts before the people," the minister told reporters.

He said though some miscreants are still trying to foment trouble, Delhi police and the paramilitary forces were taking proper precautions.

He made it clear that the Centre would not tolerate killings of innocent people, damage to public and private property and attacks on the policemen doing their duty.

He reiterated that the violence in Delhi is pre-planned and aimed at tarnishing the image of India during US President Donald Trump's visit.

Stating that Trump and his family members are in Delhi for the second day, Reddy appealed to all political parties to exercise restraint and avoid use of provocative language. He said no issue can be solved through violence.

Reddy said the Centre would deal firmly with the rioters. "No matter which community or party is resorting to violence, the Centre will not spare anyone. It will take strong action against all anti-social elements," he said.

Political leaders condemn violence in Delhi

New Delhi: Political leaders on Monday condemned the violence that spiralled in parts of Delhi over the citizenship act and appealed to people to maintain peace, with Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal saying that violence will not be tolerated.

A Delhi Police head constable was killed and a deputy commissioner of police injured as clashes between pro and anti-CAA groups in northeast Delhi's Jaffrabad and Maujpur areas broke out again, with protesters torching houses, shops and vehicles, and hurling stones at each other.

Kejriwal urged Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Lt Governor Anil Baijal to restore law and order, and ensure that peace and harmony is maintained in the national capital.
