New Delhi: The Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) is in the process of selecting six countries having the latest technology in the housing sector. The Secretary in the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs claimed that the ministry has also achieved breakthroughs in the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) scheme.
Talking to ETV Bharat in an exclusive interview, Durga Shankar Mishra, Secretary in the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs said, "Against the demand gap of 1 crore urban housing, we have sanctioned 81 lakhs as of now. Out of which 46 lakhs have been grounded for constructions and 25 lakhs have already been completed," Mishra said adding "this is a remarkable achievement in the last five years."
"We have also benefited over 1.75 lakh such as MIG beneficiaries," said Mishra.
"We are in the process of selecting six countries with the latest technologies for six different components of the urban housing. This will ensure full and proper use of the latest technology in the housing sector," he claimed.
Mishra said that his ministry has also developed an affordable, sustainable housing accelerator in four IITs across India.
"There are 40 research fellows with the ministry who are all engaged in analysing various data to find solutions to various urban challenges," said Mishra.
The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) aims to ensure “housing for all by 2022” by providing financial assistance to beneficiaries. Under the Credit-Linked Subsidy Scheme (CLSS), the Centre provides an interest subsidy of up to around ₹2.67 lakh on home loans to individuals, which reduces the principal outstanding amount of the loan.
