New Delhi: A day after former Chief Ministers of J&K Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti along with other National Conference (NC) leaders were slapped with Public Safety Act (PFA), Congress MP in the Lok Sabha Pradyut Bordoloi criticised Narendra Modi government of running an autocratic system of governance.
Talking to ETV Bharat in New Delhi, Bordoloi an MP from Assam said that central government is functioning in an autocratic way.
"We had demanded the whereabouts and subsequent release of 84-years old Farooq Abdullah from detention. He is a sitting MP in Lok Sabha. We have appealed the Lok Sabha speaker to intervene. But nothing happened," said Borodoloi.
"On the contrary, senior political leaders including former Chief Ministers of J&K, Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti have been booked under PSA...this is really shameful," he added.
Borodoloi further justified the statement made by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
He said: "Rahul Gandhi said nothing wrong. As a member of the House, he has all the rights to question the Prime Minister. But instead of replying to this question, another Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan read a printed copy of a statement criticising and assaulting Rahul Gandhi."
When asked, whether Rahul Gandhi should have been more sensitive about using words against Prime Minister, Borodoloi said that he (Rahul Gandhi) did not say anything wrong.
"Rahul Gandhi did not say anything which is unparliamentary...he said that youths of the country will come on the street due to the lack of employment and this could also force Prime Minister Narendra Modi to resign. And instead of talking about creating jobs, employment, Prime Minister Modi keeps talking on political issues," added Borodoi.
