Oxygen offloading in Delhi NCR crosses 7,500 MT: Railways

Overcoming all hurdles and finding new solutions, Indian Railways achieved another milestone by delivering over 7,500 MT of Liquid Medical Oxygen in the Delhi NCR region amid the Covid Crisis.

New Delhi: Indian Railways, on Monday, achieved another milestone by delivering over 7,500 metric tonnes of Liquid Medical Oxygen in the Delhi NCR region amidst the Covid pandemic.

Out of this, Delhi has got 5,527 MT of LMO via Oxygen Expresses.

Also, Oxygen delivery to Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Haryana has crossed 2,000 MT each.

For the state of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, the Liquid Medical Oxygen (LMO) delivery crossed 1,800 MT and 1,900 MT respectively.

So far, Indian Railways has delivered more than 21,939 MT of LMO in over 1,304 tankers to various states across the country.

In total, 321 Oxygen Expresses have completed their journeys so far, while 11 loaded trains are on run with more than 827 MT of LMO in 46 tankers.

As per the official data, 614 MT of Oxygen has been offloaded in Maharashtra, nearly 3,797 MT in Uttar Pradesh, 656 MT in Madhya Pradesh, 5,527 MT in Delhi, 2,034 MT in Haryana, 98 MT in Rajasthan, 2,115 MT in Karnataka, 320 MT in Uttarakhand, 2,016 MT in Tamil Nadu, 1,896 MT in Andhra Pradesh, 225 MT in Punjab, 380 MT in Kerala, 1,978 MT in Telangana, 38 MT in Jharkhand and 240 MT in Assam.

At present, Oxygen Expresses are delivering LMO at 41 stations in the 39 cities/towns of 15 states across the nation. This includes Lucknow, Varanasi, Agra in Uttar Pradesh, Sagar, Bhopal in Madhya Pradesh, Nagpur, Mumbai, in Maharashtra, Hyderabad in Telangana, Faridabad, Gurugram in Haryana, Tuglakabad, Delhi Cantt, Okhla in Delhi, Kota, Kanakpara in Rajasthan, Bengaluru in Karnataka, Dehradun in Uttarakhand, Nellore, Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh, Ernakulam in Kerala, Chennai, Coimbatore, Madurai in Tamil Nadu, Bhatinda, Phillaur in Punjab, Kamrup in Assam, Ranchi in Jharkhand and many others.

Railways has mapped different routes with Oxygen supply locations and keep itself ready with any emerging need of the states. States provide tankers to the Indian Railways for bringing LMO.

To deliver oxygen to the states, Indian Railways is loading its trains from Oxygen plants at Hapa, Baroda, Mundra in the West and Rourkela, Durgapur, Tatanagar, Angul in the East and then delivering it to the states of Uttarakhand, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Haryana, Telangana, Punjab, Kerala, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh in complex operational route planning scenarios.

The average speed of these critical Freight trains is way above 55 in most cases over long distances. Railways is running these trains on high priority Green Corridor, with a sense of urgency.

Technical stoppages have been reduced to 1 minute for crew changes over different sections. All this is done in a manner that the speed of other Freight Operation does not get reduced as well.

In a statement, Indian Railways said, "Running of new Oxygen is a very dynamic exercise and figures keep getting updated all the time. More loaded Oxygen Expresses are expected to start their journeys later in the night."
