Noida: Since the implementation of the new Motor Vehicle Act across India, the number of driving license(DL) applicants has increased up to 10 times.
People are now waiting for more than a month before they get an appointment for their driving exam.
Noida's Transport Department has put about 5,000 people on hold for issuing them their Learning Driving License.
On average, 300 people apply for a DL daily on the Transport Department's website.
Out of them, 200 apply for permanent licenses while 100 apply for learning licenses.
AK Pandey, a member of Noida's ARTO administration said, "The number of applications is so high that people have to wait for 25 days or more for a date for their examination."
"Around 5,000 people are waiting for the examination. They also have to wait for the biometric process to get completed. People in the transport department are requesting to get slots soon, but that is not possible due to the heavy traffic," he added.
Transport officials said that a learning driving license is valid for six months, after which the applicant receives a permanent DL.
"In the past, most people used to take the test within a day, but it is not possible in the present circumstances," they added.
