New Delhi: IndiGo CEO Ronojoy Dutta on Tuesday said that there is no evidence of transmission of COVID-19 in an aircraft and coronavirus cases on planes carried the infection prior to boarding.
"The airline will follow government's guideline to keep middle seats vacant wherever possible but to the extent that we need to fill the middle seat, we will provide extra protective gown to the passengers," IndiGo CEO said.
Notably, on Monday, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) had issued guidelines to airlines on the basis of an expert committee recommendation after a Supreme Court order.
The DGCA stated that the middle seats should ideally be kept vacant or the person sitting in that seat should be given a wrap-around gown.
The order said that passengers will have to be provided with safety kits by airlines which will include three-layered surgical mask, face shield and sanitizer.
"It is important to keep in mind that those people had the virus before they got on to the airplane. They didn't come into contact on that airplane. To date there is no evidence of transmission on board the plane,” Dutta told analysts in an investor conference call following the airline’s Q4FY20 results.
"At IndiGo, we are determined to emerge from this crisis stronger and more energised than ever. We are positioning ourselves to be a stronger brand to have a more efficient fleet and a lower cost structure," he added.
IndiGo CEO also told the investors that the company has no plan of buying or selling an airline and they have a go alone strategy for the future.
