New Delhi: Applauding government's efforts concerning the ambitious National Intelligence Grid (NATGRID) project that would help security agencies to track terrorists, Anuj Agarwal, chairman of Center for Research on Cyber Crime and Cyber Law, on Saturday cautioned the dispensation against any possible misuse of it.
Talking to the ETV Bharat here, Agarwal said it's a good effort as it would help various security agencies of the country in getting the required data about terrorists. He, however, in the same breath mentioned that the government would have to ensure that it's not misused.
The eleven-year-old project gathered pace in 2016 when IB officer Ashok Patnaik was appointed as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of it. After Patnaik retired, NATGRID is now headed by IAS officer Ashish Gupta.
On Thursday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah was briefed about it in his office at the North Block.
Agarwal said several criminals were able to flee the country as the agencies concerned failed to coordinate among themselves and this happened primarily because the data available to them were scattered. NATGRID would solve the issue ad help security agencies to keep a tab on the criminals and terrorists.
The data recovery centre for NATGRID has already been established in Bengaluru and its Delhi office is expected to be ready by December end.
