New Delhi: Taking note of the issues raised by the RSS affiliate Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS), the Central government has invited the trade union organization for the two-day meeting of the Group of Ministers (GoM) on employment generation and skill development.

The GoM, consists of eight Union Ministers - Arjun Munda, Mahendra Nath Pandey, Santosh Gangwar, Prahlad Patel, G Kishan Reddy, V Muralidharan and Pratap Sarangi - which is headed by Union Minister for Social Justice Thavar Chand Gahlot.

In the meeting held in New Delhi, the BMS suggested measures to generate employment in different sectors ranging from agriculture, handlooms, beedi and fishing.

About issues concerning migrant workers, it said the Central and state governments must collect and maintain data of migrant workers, which could prove useful for assessment of manpower.

In an official statement on Saturday, the trade body stressed the need for coordinated efforts by the governments to generate employment opportunities for millions of migrant workers.

"Unless there is a paradigm shift in thinking among the policymakers and the enforcement agencies, the desired transformation will not take place. So the need of the hour is out of box thinking and formulating new strategies, keeping in mind the special situations prevailing in India," it said.

The BMS has been opposing several policies of the Narendra Modi government and has held a series of protests. It has been unhappy on issues such as nullification of labour laws, privatisation and migrant workers.

However, a senior functionary of the Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh told ETV Bharat that the organization has a "progressive thinking" and they support the government wherever they find it right.
