JNUSU launch protest against Delhi Police over Najeeb Ahmed's missing case

The Jawaharlal Nehru University Students' Union (JNUSU) staged a protest against the Delhi Police and demanded a probe in the missing case of Najeeb Ahmed. The 27-year-old Ahmed has been missing for the last 4 years following a scuffle with members of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad.

New Delhi: The Jawaharlal Nehru University Students' Union (JNUSU) on Thursday hit out at the government and demanded fair and speedy probe for a 27-year-old JNU student Najeeb Ahmed who had gone missing from the campus hostel on October 15, 2016.

"It's been four years since Najeeb Ahmed, a JNU student, mysteriously disappeared on October 15, 2016. Delhi Police started the investigation into the matter after a month when all proofs were erased. If they would have taken the matter seriously then Najeeb would have been with us," said JNUSU president Aishe Ghosh.

Aishe Ghosh said that Delhi Police is not allowing them to protest outside the JNU Gate and enter don't have the right to enter our campus.

"The responsibility of the Delhi Police is to look after the outside security of the campus. Whatever demands we have, we will ask our administration to fulfil them," she added.

JNUSU president alleged that ever since Najeeb's disappearance right-wing groups and some Delhi Police officials posted fake news on social media stating that Ahmed has joined a terrorist group and this happened because of irresponsible behaviour by Delhi Police.

She added that on January 5 this year, Delhi Police was near the campus and a scuffle broke out between different students unions but they remained a spectator. "So, what we demand is a speedy justice because we believe that justice delayed is justice denied," she added.

Aishi Ghosh said that we believe in our system that's why we and Najeeb's mother Fatima Nafees had demanded CBI investigation but the Investigation Agency had filed for closure report in the case.

Raising concerns over the students' security in the campus, JNUSU president said, "Our university is situated just a few kilometres away from the Union Home Ministry and a student gets disappear. How can that be possible? Police should have investigated this matter on that time only but it why this didn't happen?"

JNUSU general secretary Satish Chandra Yadav said that this protest was called to question Delhi Police, CBI and the government to ask where us Najeeb who disappeared from the campus hostel but the University administration took out a notice and stated that we are not allowed for any kind of protest closed the campus gates.

Najeeb Ahmed had gone missing from the campus hostel on October 15, 2016, following a scuffle with members of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad, the previous night.

The Delhi Police, its Crime Branch and the CBI conducted a series of search operations across the country to find out the missing student and in October 2018, the CBI give up on its investigation and filed the closure report in the court stating that it was unable to locate Najeeb despite concerted efforts.
