New Delhi: Amid tensions between India and U.S. over trade, Union Minister for Commerce and Industries Piyush Goyal during his interaction with the diaspora in the UK said that India is looking towards the United States to put baggage behind and move forward.
Speaking on trade with the UK and the U.S., Piyush Goyal said, 'India will sit down across the table and find the common meeting ground with both countries. There are obviously some red lines, which each side may find very difficult to compromise, but as long as we can respect that as one would do in a business transaction or while negotiating a good deal, it will not be impossible to resolve it.'
He also emphasised on the negative trade impacts of the Free Trade agreements which entered India by 2009-10.
In the recent past, U.S. President Donald Trump had twice accused India of levying heavy tariffs on U.S. products.
After the United States took away the preferential trade status given to India, the Modi administration increased tariffs on 28 U.S. products.
Pointing towards the fast-tracking process of the BREXIT, Piyush Goyal also talked about enhancing trade with the UK.
He said, 'India is in discussions to take the next step for deeper engagement with the UK.'
