Home Ministry's involvement scaled up anti-Covid fight in Delhi: IMA

Dr. V Ashokan, general secretary of Indian Medical Association (IMA) has said that after Union Home Minister Amit Shah's involvement anti-COVID fight situation in the national capital has improved.

New Delhi: Ever since Union Home Minister Amit Shah has personally started monitoring the Covid19 situation of the national capital, Delhi's fight against Covid19 pandemic has witnessed a remarkable change, says IMA general secretary.

The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has supplied diagnostic material for carrying out 4.7 lakh RT PCR test to the 12 functional labs in Delhi, till date.

It has also provided 1.57 lakh RNA extraction kits essential for carrying out the test and 2.84 lakh VTMs (viral transport medium) and swabs for collection of Covid-19 samples.

"There is no doubt that interference of Home Minister Amit Shah has brought a sudden change in Delhi's fight against Covid19," said Dr V Ashokan, general secretary of Indian Medical Association (IMA) to ETV Bharat.

Dr Ashokan said that with sincere efforts from all quarters, Delhi will soon witness a total difference in Covid situation.

Aware of the sudden surge in cases, ICMR has also approved antigen-based rapid tests and supplied 50,000 such antigen rapid test kits to Delhi government for supporting Covid19 containment efforts.

The national centre for disease control (NCDC) has also provided laboratory diagnostic support for processing off samples by RT-PCR I causing training of lab professionals of Delhi Government. NCDC is also providing technical guidance on all aspects of Covid19 surveillance and response strategy.

The NCDC has also taken initiative to conduct a serogical survey across Delhi from June 27 to July 10 during which blood samples from 20,000 persons will be tested to ascertain the presence of anti-bodies.

Significantly, a 10,000-bedded "Sardar Patel Covid Care Centre" is being developed at Radha Soami Satsang Beas in Chatarpur. The entire operation of the centre including ensuring availability of requisite numbers of medical personnel, has been entrusted to the central armed police forces (CAPF), with Indo Tibetean Border Police taking the lead.

A 1000 bedded New green field hospital constructed by DRDO and manner by doctors and paramedical staff from army would start functioning next week from an area near Dhaula Kuan.

The Union Health Ministry has also distributed 11.11 lakh N95 masks, 6.81 lakh PPE kits, 44.80 lakh HCQ tablets in Delhi. 425 ventilators have also been allocated to the Delhi government.

It may be mentioned here that Delhi has a 34 dedicated Covid hospitals, 4 dedicated Covid healthcare centres, 24 dedicated Covid centres to treat Covid 19 patients.

Till date Delhi has registered 77240 Covid 19 cases till date with 2492 deaths. Delhi has crossed Tamil Nadu (74622) and come second in the list of states witnessing highest number of Covdi19 cases.

Maharashtra with 152765 Covid19 cases is leading in the list.
