New Delhi: Alert has been sounded in Delhi and Uttar Pradesh after a suspected ISIS terrorist, armed with explosives and a weapon, was arrested in the national capital on Friday night.
After an alert by intelligence agencies, vehicles crossing the Delhi-Noida border are being checked by the security officials and the security at the sensitive places has been strengthened.
Pramod Singh Kushwah, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) told reporters the accused identified as Abu Yusuf was plotting a lone wolf attack in the national capital and was arrested after a brief shootout at around 11:30 am in Delhi's Dhaula Kuan area.
The accused, who is a resident of Balrampur district in Uttar Pradesh was found to be in possession of two IEDs and a pistol.
The IEDs recovered from the accused have been defused by the security forces at Ridge Road's Buddha Jayanti Park.
Uttar Pradesh Director General of Police, HC Awasthy has instructed all police chief and other security officials to remain alert.
Local intelligence unit in Balrampur has also been alerted to gather all information about the accused Abu Yusuf and his family members.
As per the sources, security officials are conducting raids in various locations in Delhi and Uttar Pradesh to trace the people associated with Abu Yusuf who had been helping him with logistical support.
Delhi Police Cell, UP Anti-Terror Squad and central agencies are now interrogating the accused at Lodhi Road in Delhi.
On Friday, Intelligence agencies had issued an alert stating that terrorist groups are conspiring to create and spread riots by spoiling the communal atmosphere in the country.
The alert also alarmed that several leaders associated with Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) can also be targeted by the terrorists.
Recently, the Gujarat Anti-Terrorist Squad arrested a sharpshooter who was allegedly sent to Ahmedabad by gangster Chhota Shakeel to kill BJP leader Gordhan Zadafia.
In another development, Abdur Rahman, who allegedly worked briefly with the Islamic State in Syria in 2014, was arrested by the National Investigation Agency on Monday based on intelligence gathered from a couple who were arrested in Delhi in March this year.
