New Delhi: With the riot affected people picking up pieces of their lives to start all over again, most of them are of the view that compensation must be disbursed quickly and the guilty must be booked to face the law.
Interacting with the ETV Bharat here, Maamchand, who lives in Shiv Vihar locality of the north-east Delhi, said his relatives evacuated his family from their house after they realized that the situation may go bad to worse.
"When I came to see my house early morning next day, the roads were full of stones and a large crowd had gathered in the area. I then, sensing danger, returned without going to my house," he said, adding that by the next day his house was brunt and reduced to ash and there was nothing left in it.
"People who indulge in violence like this are not humans. They could be anything but humans," he said, informing that he has received Rs 2.5 lakh as compensation and the promised amount is Rs five lakh.
"It would not be enough but one can always start afresh," he said, appealing to the government to pay the rest of the amount of compensation as soon as possible.
Similar views were expressed by Akhtar Raza of Delhi Minority Commission. He said that whatever was earned in the past 40-year was gone.
"The government must help the affected to be on track once again, otherwise there would be serious differences in the society," he said, adding that the guilty should also be booked to face the law.
"It would help restore faith in the system of the affected, which is very significant," he said.
