Delhi's varsities cancel all pending exams

Delhi's universities have been instructed to cancel all pending exams including final semester. In an affidavit submitted before the apex court, Delhi's state universities have suggested an alternative assessment measures in order to promote pupils.

New Delhi: Government of NCT Delhi informed the Supreme Court that Delhi's state universities have been directed to cancel all written online/offline semester examinations including final year.

In an affidavit submitted before the apex court, it suggests alternative assessment measures in order to promote and grant degrees to the students.

The affidavit has come on petitions which challenged the UGC's notification of conducting final year exams in colleges/universities by September end. In the last hearing it had asserted that students should continue preparing as the exams won't be affected by the pending case before SC.

"In Delhi's state universities, best efforts were made to conduct online classes, but the reality of our digital divide is poor, online classes are not accessible equally by all," read the affidavit.

Further it says elaborated the problems faced by pupils. "Physical classes got interrupted, study material could not be accessed, college libraries were closed owing to this students did not get the kind of preparation which they needed to appear for exams.The completion of the teaching-learning process is fundamental to the conduct of regular examinations."

On Sunday, Justice Ashok Bhushan led bench would be hearing a bunch of petitions challenging the UGC's notification of conducting final exams.
