New Delhi: Migrant workers and their issues have been at the center of public attention and various discussions during the lockdown period, as they walked back to their home states. While some made it to home safely others lost their lives while traveling.
To know the current state of the migrant workers in Delhi, ETV Bharat went to Chhatarpur in south Delhi where as many as 200 migrant labourers reside. "We mostly stay at home as we don't get much work nowadays. We are managing our livelihood somehow," told a female migrant worker.
Another migrant told that they are not getting much work after lockdown.
"We are finding it difficult to sustain ourselves. Our rent was waived off during the lockdown period but now we have to pay our monthly rent of Rs 2500," added Vijay, a migrant from UP.
"Earlier, we were able to save some amount from our earnings, but now we are just surviving," stated another labourer from Bihar.
These workers were hopeful that they would get work after lockdown, however, they are still waiting for these rough times to ease.
On a positive side, a few social organisations and NGOs have been providing them food and monetary aid.
