New Delhi: A Pakistani terrorist arrested from Ramesh Park, Laxmi Nagar, in national capital has been sent to 14 days police custody. The man, who hails from Punjab in Pakistan, has been identified as Mohammad Ashraf alias Ali and was working at the behest of ISI to carry out an attack on New Delhi.
Special Cell of Delhi Police has also recovered state-of-the-art weapons, AK-47, grenades and a fake Indian ID from his possession.
The entire operation was carried out under the supervision of Delhi Police Commissioner Rakesh Asthana.
DCP Pramod Kushwaha, Special Cell said that terrorist Ashraf had his hideout in various locations including Ajmer, Delhi, Vaishali and Udhamnagar across the nation for the last 10 years.
DCP further added: "We received a tip-off about a terrorist attack plan in Delhi. Acting on the tip-off, the Special Cell arrested Ashraf on Monday night from Laxmi Nagar. Weapons were also recovered from the spot. During interrogation, it was revealed that he had married a girl in Vaishali but later they separated. He has been involved in terrorist activities for several years. Earlier he has also gone to meet suspicious people in Jammu and Kashmir. He was given an important task by a young man named Nasir who was supplying the weapons."
During the interrogation, the accused revealed that he entered India via Bangladesh in 2014 and was being handled by ISI agents from Pakistan. He had also visited Dubai on fake documents. He also identified himself as a 'holy man' based in Delhi-NCR. He also informed the police about his visit to Pakistan in 2005 where he was trained by the Nasir, a Pakistani officer. After training, he was sent back to India in 2014 on a fake passport with the residential address of Bihar.
The police are interrogating him for his associates and the place of attack, police said.
