New Delhi: Delhi Police Cyber Cell on Tuesday lodged an FIR against Twitter making very serious allegations against the micro-blogging site under IT Act and POCSO Act. The case has been registered on the complaint of the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) following the new IT laws. NCPCR has objected to providing misinformation and violating POCSO Act.
The commission has stated that social media platform is promoting objectionable material related to children. Meanwhile, a probe has been launched. Earlier, NCPCR chairman Priyank Kanungoo informed that the child rights body has written to the Centre that children should not be given access to Twitter as the microblogging platform is not safe for them.

NCPCR had filed a complaint against Twitter in May citing that the platform has violated sections 11, 15, 19 of the POCSO Act, apart from violating section 199 of IPC by lying to the inquiry. NCPCR had also summoned the DCP of Delhi Police Cyber Cell over access to pornographic and child sexual abuse content available on the platform.
In May, a letter was also issued to the secretary of the Ministry of Electronics and Information and Technology to initiate a ban on the access of Twitter by children on an immediate basis till the time Twitter makes its platform safe for children by ensuring complete removal of child sexual abuse material (CSAM) and pornographic material from their platform and also reporting of cybercrime cases by them to the authorities in India.
