Delhi Airport's Terminal-2 to resume operations

The resumption of operations at Delhi's Terminal 2 will begin with 48 departures and 48 arrivals per day and increase gradually through October.

New Delhi: With a steady increase in the number of air passengers, the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport's Terminal-2 will be resume operations from October 1, Indigo and GoAir - both low-cost carriers have said.

"All the flights with call sign between 6E 2000 - 6E 2999 will depart and arrive at Terminal 2 of IGI Airport, while the rest will operate from T3," the low-cost airline IndiGo said in a statement.

The transfer process between these two terminals has been optimised to provide a seamless experience to the passengers and they are requested to retrieve their PNR on the airline's website or mobile app to check their terminal before leaving for the airport, the airline stated.

IndiGo is currently operating more than 105 domestic flights from Terminal-3.

"As the capacities grow, operations from Terminal 2 will also allow adequate space to maintain social distancing guidelines while providing a safe and hassle-free travel experience," said Wolfgang Prock-Schauer, President and Chief Operating Officer of IndiGo.

"Effective October 1, 2020, all domestic flights to and from Delhi will arrive and depart from Terminal 2. Please ensure you check your terminal information prior to travel," said GoAir, another low-cost carrier.

The resumption of operations at T2 will be with 96 air traffic movements (48 departures and 48 arrivals) per day and increased progressively up to 180 by the end of October.

Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) said that it has taken several safety measures with all key stakeholders to contain the spread of Covid-19, as directed by the government.

In Terminal-2, DIAL has created about 27 counters among which 11 counters will be for GoAir and 16 for IndiGo passengers.

"Delhi Airport is all set to reopen for domestic flight operations at T2 after six-months shutdown. We would like to Ishwar passengers that at Delhi Airport, they would be in a safe and healthy environment. We have implemented several measures at the airport to ensure passenger safety without compromising their comfort and experience," said Videh Kumar Jaipuriar, CEO-DIAL.

According to the data released by the aviation regulator Directorate General of Civil Aviation, as many as 28.32 lakh domestic passengers travelled by domestic airlines in August 2020- a 76 per cent decline compared to August 2019.
